Harper Apothecary : Shop Small Spotlight

imageI’ve tried a few face masks in my day. Expecting a life altering experience, I’m often disappointed when I see the end result. This time around was a bit different. Moroccan Rhassoul Red Clay & ground organic Chamomile Mask by Harper’s Apothecary, let’s just say it’s all kinds of glorious.

I felt it begin to work immediately as it tightened on my face, I applied it with water, and left it on for 20 minutes.

When I rinsed it off I noticed my face was red. It felt fresh, tingly and was definitely red. Ages hours later I looked at my face and noticed the blackheads on my nose were gone! What!? My face felt smooth and the color had evened back out without a trace of red or blotchy skin.

The mask improves hydration, elasticity & texture of your skin as well as shrink spores and say sianara to your blackheads!

You can use this mask weekly, which you should totally take advantage of, you know #metime.

I got to interview the woman behind the shop, Lauren. It was a pleasure getting to know what drives her business! We also teamed up for a giveaway!

What is your inspiration?

Of course, my inspiration is my daughter. Before she was born, I carefully chose the best organic skin products for her gentle new skin, but I never took into consideration my own skin care. It wasn’t until she was born that it dawned on me; everything that goes on my skin, goes on her skin. I became determined to find healthy alternatives that are still effective.

What are your dreams for this business?

My dream is to teach women about skin care and to help empower them on their journey to creating a healthier lifestyle for them and their families.

What has been your greatest struggle? How did you overcome it?

My greatest struggle has been my own self-doubt. The voice in the back of my head that says I can’t or that I’m not good enough. To overcome those negative thoughts, I talk to myself the way I would talk to my daughter. I encourage positivity and give myself grace. And usually, a glass of wine.

Would you do anything different?

I know I need to carve out a few hours a day that are solely dedicated to Harper Apothecary. Working through naptime and after everyone is asleep becomes draining and I tend to lose my creative spark.

Who is your biggest supporter?

My husband. He completely supports my crazy ideas and doesn’t hesitate for a second when I tell him I have something else up my sleeve. He listens to me ramble on about new ideas and he is there through every up and down. He is at every craft show, setting up my table, building displays and cheering me on. None of this would have happened without his encouragement and support.

Are you a mom? What’s your most treasured memory?

I am a mom. She is the very best part of me. We spent years trying to get and stay pregnant so my most treasured memories are the ones where I realize how incredibly lucky I am to have her. Even on the days that I’m exhausted and I’m ready to break. She is our answered prayer, and even the hardest days now are better than the best days before she was ours.

How did your shop come to be? Is this always what you wanted to do?

Owning a skin care line is not what I have always dreamed of. It seemed too big, too unattainable. I wanted to be an esthetician and do facials in a fancy spa. And I did do that for a few years, and loved it! Although, it wasn’t feeding my creativity and it wasn’t as fulfilling as I’d hoped it would be.

What if anything did you go to school for? Does it help with your shop?

I went to school to be an esthetician and I believe that education is what sets me and my brand apart. My education was based largely on holistic treatments and healing the skin by healing the body. I studied herbs, essential oils, Ayurveda, nutrition, detoxification and naturopathy. My line reflects my education and I firmly believe that nature has provided us with all the ingredients we need for healthy skin.

If you could be any animal, what would you be?

I think I would be an otter. They are the cutest little things!

If you were a super hero, what would your super power be?

To fly. It would just be so convenient and time saving.

If you could meet anyone, past or present who would it be?

That’s a tough one… maybe Oprah? She is a strong, positive female entrepreneur that overcame all the odds to become successful. I think she could teach me a thing or two.
