Let’s see, how do I begin a blog!? How do I tell a story I live everyday (and make it interesting enough for others to read!)? Maybe I should start off by introducing myself & my fam-bam, so here’s the dry stuff folks:
I am Mama Sug (short for sugar) my real name is Tamara Elizabeth, but everyone calls me Tami. I am 50% Puerto Rican & 50% Michigan mutt, which incudes some English & Scottish ancestry. I am somewhat bilingual (lol, I need more practice with my espanol!) I was born in Germany on a US Army base, both of my parents are veterans. I am turning dirty 30 January 26th, WHOOP (I’m super excited, can’t you tell!!?)! I am a wife to my very loving hubs Eric, who I have been with for over 15 years. Most importantly I am a mama (hear me roar!) to my 17 month old son Graeme Steven & pup Ruby Luz, a 10 week old Golden Retriever.
A few things you should know: I swear like a sailor, I have an abundance of food sensitivities including: gluten, shrimp, dill, peanuts, salmon & many, many more… which makes gaining weight very difficult for me. I’m obsessed with taking photos, photos of my son, hubs, our dog, nature & all things hippie & artistic. I’m addicted to Instagram – follow me @mama_sugs. I tie dye EVERYTHING & I’m a hoarder of all things vintage – especially PLATES!
I am a nurse, I currently work in Pediatrics, but came from 7 years of working in the Emergency Department (boy do I have some stories to tell!!). I have worked just about every floor in my hospital, and have experience caring for wee little babes on up to the elderly. My favorite population to care for has to be pediatrics. I have been a nurse for almost three years, which to me, feels like an eternity (we can dive into this love /hate relationship a little later).
I am also the founder of Sugs’ Shoppe, a mama & babe hippie shop. I love to sew, tie dye & upcycle just about anything & everything. I started my little mama run shop last February. I create tie dyed infant slings, upcycled & new tie dyed onesies, toddler tees, kids tees & clothing for the mamas; bags, purses, scarves, blankets, aromatherapy soaks & scrubs & so much more! If you want it, I could probably make it. My ultimate goal in this life is to own my own store front, and make my living creating things for others to enjoy, a girl can dream- right?!
My little family lives in Fenton, Michigan on a ten acre lot of fields & woodlands, I lovingly refer to it our humble abode as Sterk Acres. We bought our house two years ago, right after I found out I was pregnant with Graeme. It was in pretty sorry shape, smelled of lizards, snakes & rats (because there were probably 50 of them throughout the house when we did our tour, as pets, yes… pets). Poop brown walls in the living room, blood red walls in the bedroom, black walls in the bathroom, cement popcorn ceilings in the nursery…seriously my hubs worked his ass off getting it ready for me and our unborn son. I was a mess while pregnant, with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, I couldn’t step foot into the house because it smelled like a damn zoo, which in turn made me incredibly nauseated! Thankfully we have awesome friends and family that helped us refinish the house. Even though we have some work still to be done, a bathroom to be refinished and a need for a new deck…we love it, and will probably never move.
Now that I’ve gotten the boring stuff out of the way, I hope you’ll consider stickin’ around as I fumble my way through this mama blog… tackling my diet & food sensitivities, toddlers & puppies, a career, a business, a happy marriage & home.
Thanks for stopping by, watch this space! More to come soon!
Peace, Love & Tie Dye
